Eye Handbook is a mobile app that ophthalmologists and eye doctors use every day. We built it here in Michigan, and now doctors around the world rely on it for quick access to diagnostic tools, medical codes, calculators, and training materials.
How we built a medical app that doctors actually want to use
The Eye Handbook is a smartphone diagnostic and treatment reference tool for anyone involved in Eye care. We developed a comprehensive mobile application that provides diagnostic tools, treatment references, and educational resources for ophthalmology professionals and students.
The solution features vision testing modules, ophthalmology calculators, ICD code management, and comprehensive medical references that allow healthcare professionals to access critical information quickly and efficiently.

The technical challenges we had to solve to make this work

Developing comprehensive vision testing modules with accurate vision charts that meet medical standards and provide reliable diagnostic results.
Creating accurate ophthalmology calculators with complex medical formulas that provide precise calculations for various eye conditions and treatments.
Implementing comprehensive ICD code conversion system with local database management to handle complex medical coding requirements efficiently.
Developing efficient audio file download system with pagination to manage large volumes of medical audio content while maintaining app performance.
Ensuring complete HIPAA compliance while maintaining user-friendly functionality required extensive security measures and privacy protection protocols.
Synchronizing complex medical data across iOS and Android platforms while maintaining data integrity and security standards.
Understanding and adapting to the complex workflows of medical professionals who need quick access to diagnostic tools and references.
Keeping up with constantly changing medical regulations and ensuring the app remains compliant with healthcare standards.
Creating an app that performs reliably in high-pressure medical environments where accuracy and speed are critical.
Ensuring all medical content, codes, and diagnostic tools are accurate and up-to-date with current medical standards.
Designing an interface that works in real medical environments
The app's UX is optimized for daily clinical workflows. OneTeam designed a comprehensive interface that supports medical professionals in their daily practice with intuitive navigation and efficient access to critical tools.

Quick access to essential diagnostic tools with intuitive navigation designed for medical professionals.

Comprehensive ICD code database with search functionality optimized for quick reference during patient consultations.

Secure patient data management with HIPAA-compliant features for storing and accessing patient information.

Educational content and training materials designed to help medical professionals stay current with best practices.
How we solved the technical problems and built the features doctors needed

We visited nearest ophthalmology centers and collected samples to design new vision charts that meet medical standards and provide accurate diagnostic results.
We searched ophthalmic calculation formulas from online sources and verified them with specialist doctors in the field to develop accurate ophthalmology calculators.
The biggest challenge of ICD code conversion was handling the ICD data locally. We implemented SQLite database in a very structured format to overcome this challenge efficiently.
Built a secure, HIPAA-compliant architecture with end-to-end encryption, secure data storage, and comprehensive audit trails to protect patient information.
Developed native iOS and Android applications using Swift and Kotlin to ensure optimal performance and platform-specific features.
Created a robust content management system that allows for easy updates of medical codes, diagnostic tools, and educational materials.
Implemented real-time data synchronization across platforms while maintaining data integrity and security standards.
Conducted extensive user research with medical professionals to understand their workflows and design an interface that enhances their practice.
Established automated systems to monitor regulatory changes and ensure ongoing compliance with healthcare standards.
